Is a degree still the only meaningful “unit” of education?

The traditional degree, with its long time commitment and steep price tag, made sense when the university centrally aggregated top academic minds with residency-based students. But is it an efficient “unit” of measuring learning today?

An interesting article, which pieces together the thoughts of different authors, essentially expresses that making courses the new unit of education will unlock a flood of unmet demand and a new wave of possibilities in how we learn and consume education.

And I think they’re on to something.
